Promotion

 

Objective:
Promote the Imlay City downtown district as a prime area for commercial, industrial and residential needs. Develop a positive image of the district and strengthen the district as the center of community activity.

  • Continue development of unique promotional activities to bring new people into the community.
  • Organize and implement a minimum of three recreational events (Winter Sprinter 5K-February, Summer 5K event-July, Imlay City 5K-October).
  • Implementation of the 2004 Summer Concert Series.
  • Implementation of the Imlay City Historic Home & Business Tour (scheduled for June 5, 2004) this event is a joint effort between the DDA, Imlay City Chamber of Commerce and the Imlay City Historical Commission.
  • Develop a summer Taste Fest incorporating local restaurants (ideas include a regional taste fest including restaurants from all over the Thumb, the possibility of bringing a Arts, Music and Food Festival to downtown).
  • Coordinate joint retail events including community wide sales promotion of special business hours, services, etc.
  • Development of a joint effort to establish a community event geared towards the community’s Hispanic population and businesses.
  • Additional influence and participation in existing events including the Blueberry Festival and Eastern Michigan Fair.
  • Continue evaluation of the possibility of a downtown Farmers Market.
  • Develop promotional materials to complement the Chamber of Commerce’s Community Profile including a brochure marketing the downtown district.
  • Consider development of other initiatives including the possibility of a 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament in downtown Imlay City of Imlay City.
  • Develop a window display incorporating the new streetscape developments to be displayed in a vacant downtown storefront.
  • Develop incentive programs including awards for those businesses that decorate for seasonal events, create outstanding window displays and make desirable façade improvements.
  • Continue solicitation of private dollars to support promotional activities.
  • Additional usage of the district logo including adhesive stickers for business windows providing a uniformity and awareness.
  • Utilize the Promotions Committee to develop ingenious and original promotional activities.
  • Continued development of News Releases for any and all downtown related news (includes new businesses, promotional activities and infrastructure projects).
  • Develop a downtown newsletter to be distributed in the spring and fall seasons updated district happenings (complement the City’s winter/summer newsletter).
