Objective: Revitalize the downtown district through the restructuring and rebuilding of the downtown district’s economy.
- Identify and facilitate opportunities for clean up and redevelopment of commercial and industrial sites:
- Use the provisions of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to assist in the clean up of specific sites
- Identify and apply for Environmental Protection Grants specified towards Brownfield Site Redevelopment (2004 applications programs expected to begin in late summer)
- Provide individual assistance to developers and potential investors of district properties.
- Continue development of new site assistance programs.
- Continue implementation of downtown marketing plan including print material and web site development.
- Utilize the Lapeer Development Corporation and their expertise on economic development projects and programs.
- Meet with district business owners on a regular basis to encourage business retention and expansion within the district.
- Provide incentive’s to local business owners including the offering of business service seminars and other special services.
- Continue to make use of and support the following programs:
- Brownfield Redevelopment Authority
- Tax Increment Finance Authority
- Downtown Development Authority
- Imlay City Façade Loan Program
- Lapeer Development Corporation
- Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificates
- Tax Exempt Industrial Facilities Revenue Bonds
- Examine the possibility of purchasing property to serve as commercial incubators.
- Continued recruitment of new business to meet market opportunities.
- Assisting in the improvement and quality of downtown businesses.
