Michigan Barn Preservation Network Sets Fall Barn Tour for October 9
IMLAY CITY, Mich. — The Michigan Barn Preservation Network (MBPN) will host its 2026 Fall Barn Tour on Friday, October 9, featuring historic barns and farmsteads in northeastern Lapeer County.
The all-day bus tour will begin at the Imlay City Historical Museum, 77 N. Main Street, Imlay City. Participants will gather and register from 8:30 to 9 a.m., with the bus departing at 10:00 a.m. and returning no later than 5 p.m.
The annual tour combines Michigan agricultural history with practical information about preserving the state’s historic barns. Participants will visit several sites, meet barn owners and learn about barn architecture, timber framing and traditional construction methods, as well as ways older barns can be preserved, repaired and repurposed. Builders, preservationists and barn owners will also share ideas and experience with common barn-maintenance and restoration challenges.
Lapeer County, with its continuing agricultural traditions in crops, livestock and dairy farming, provides an ideal setting for the tour and MBPN’s mission of promoting the appreciation, preservation and rehabilitation of Michigan’s barns, farmsteads and rural communities.
The cost is $75 for MBPN members and $95 for non-members. Includes lunch. Registration begins in September, and MBPN members receive priority registration. Space is limited to one bus, with reservations accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. A waiting list will be established if the tour reaches capacity.
