Our community is a great place in which to live, work, conduct business and play.  Imlay City is centrally located off I-69 and M-53 with major cities like Detroit, Port Huron, and Flint just a short drive away.

Imlay City is rich with agriculture and industrial business.  We have a historic downtown district, historic homes, farmland, industrial complex and wildlife.  Within the area we have many recreational activities to offer such as golfing, swimming, hiking, biking and fishing to name a few.

Community Profile

The City of Imlay City encompasses an area of 2.7 square miles within Lapeer County in Michigan’s Thumb Region. Imlay City is located approximately 52 miles north of the City of Detroit, 30 miles east of Flint and 36 miles west of Port Huron and the Canadian border. We are located just north of Interstate 69, and are also serviced by two state highways. M-21 passes east-west at the northern edge of the city, and M-53 (Van Dyke) runs north-south through the city.

We possess a great deal of history, including our early days as a major stop on the railway, to the growth and inception of M-53 as the "new" main street for Imlay City commerce.

We boast a stable economy including commercial, industrial, and professional services. Excellent public schools combine with a plethora of affordable housing opportunities to make Imlay City an even more desirable place to call home.

Our quaint downtown offers a pleasant rendition of the early 1900’s, allowing visitor’s to leave the hustle and bustle of present day city life behind for a while.
